Our Whole Lives (OWL) Program

A Comprehensive Progressive Sexuality Education Program

Since 2004, the Meriden Congregational Church has been offering the Our Whole Lives Program (OWL) to our community’s children and youth. OWL is a comprehensive life-span sexuality program developed and offered as a joint project through the United Church of Christ and the Unitarian Universalist Association. The national OWL curriculum is offered for the following age groups: Kindergarten/First Grade, Fourth through Sixth Grade, Seventh through Ninth Grade, Tenth through Twelfth Grade, Young Adult, Middle Adult, and Older Adult. Our church generally offers OWL to Kindergarteners/First Graders, Fourth through Sixth Graders, Seventh through Ninth Graders, and Tenth through Twelfth Graders in alternating years, depending on interest. Facilitators (church members) for each of the age groups are nationally trained and certified. The OWL programs at the Meriden Congregational Church are coordinated by the OWL Ministry Team, chaired by Kelsey MacNamee, Spiritual Formation Coordinator for Children, Youth and Families. The OWL Program, a developmentally appropriate and inclusive sexuality program    focusing on values such as self-respect, compassion, diversity, and justice, provides children and youth with a safe and brave space to receive the knowledge and skills they need to feel unconditionally loving toward themselves and their bodies, remain healthy, and build positive, equitable loving relationships. OWL is not a religious program and all families within our wider community who are interested in progressive sexuality education for their children or youth are warmly welcome to participate.
